Hi There World! it's 2019 and I see I have not blogged in a while... so what's going on in my corner of Vermont? All kinds of things. it's mid august and i can't believe summer is 3/4 way through! Working on cleaning up from the winter's storms, lots of trees down. wishing i had a slew of volunteers to weed wack and saw up trees and branches... but i don't, so i rejoice when i successfully mow the lawn, really happy that i changed my spark plugs on mowers and boy do they run better now! I'm fostering dogs for a rescue... remodeling my kitchen, getting rid of as much unused or barely used belongings as possible. have gone from 4 file cabinets down to 2, Painted the front Doors, and am working on all kinds of other stuff... Not doing much with all my arts and crafts, haven't been knitting, spinning, weaving or Jewelry making for a couple summers now. Just no time... But i am riding my motorcycle... Loving every minute in the wind. The dog goes with. She loves it too. Well that's all i have time for today. God bless you all and be well. Psalm 91.

A couple of my foster fur kids... Boston terrier has NO Eyes... sadly injured and now....
BUMBLEBEE, His story...
Hi There, I’m approximately 1.5- 2 years old & I’m a purebred Boston Terrier Boy who was abandoned by my owner; Yep, He just dropped me at the municipal kill shelter and drove away never looking back. That was a really scary place for a little guy like me to be, there were lots of dogs barking all the time and no soft bed or people to play with me or walk me… I kept waiting for my human to come back for me but he never did, and the worst part was that every couple days a man with a needle and a white jacket would come and dogs would be put to sleep just cause the shelter was crowded or the dog was an owner surrender or an stray who was there past time limit for owner to bail them out…
Thankfully for me, There was a very caring part time AC officer at the shelter there, and He made sure i wasn’t put to sleep by getting me out of there and into a thing called “dog rescue”… Yea, i never heard of such a thing… BUT I’m alive today because of Boxers N More Rescue, They got me out of shelter, into USDA required mandatory 2 week boarding and for my vet exam, heart worm test (negative thank God) and my shots, and they also got my interstate health certificate and arranged my way to them up north.
So upon arrival in New England I was then picked up by a nice lady and her friend and they brought me to Vermont to a “foster home”… What’s a foster home? I didn’t know but now I figured out it is a place where caring dog loving volunteer families bring in dogs who are in need of a temporary home, vet care and behavior assessment and training, and love us doggies like family members until they feel we/I am ready and then they find a family or human who is a perfect match for my lifestyle… Yea so once abandoned /now rescued dogs like me, get to live with these nice folks for a while and we get needed vet care, are house trained, learn to walk on leashes, play with other dogs and kids, and cats (and YES i am a dog who just LOVES other small dogs and CATS too!)
When i first arrived in my foster home i had no name, the lady there laughed at how i went around smelling all the flowers and things in the yard and she said i hovered like a little 'bumblebee' , going from plant to plant, that was how i got my name! I’m now called Bumblebee and I love being called my name! When i hear my name i come running! I love everything my foster family does with me, car rides, sitting in my foster mom’s lap, and boy do i love belly rubs and butt scratches! I also like listening to TV going for walks, snuggles with cat and other small dogs on sofa, playing with stuffed toys and chewing on beef bones...
This nice foster family that has taken me in and tells me every day that someone will be chosen specially for me, to adopt and to love me and care for me forever. Could you be my someone?
I just want a warm lap to sit in that is mine forever. Is your lap available for me?”
My foster’s tell me i am a comedian, i make them laugh a lot, and i’m a very happy little guy.
They tell me it’s best if i go to home with no big dogs in it cause i’m so small and I lost both of my eyes because a big dog played too ruff with me.
So yea, i can’t see at all now, but that’s okay- I am adjusting and am told i will have a long and happy life, my other senses like smell, sound, and touch will get me around just fine… Hey they say that i could have been put to sleep if the rescue didn’t have vet remove damaged eyes… my optic nerve was torn out of the one and then a while later the other injured eye had it’s retina burst from pressure from the injury induced glaucoma and i was in incredible pain without chance of seeing again, the vet said if they left eye in i would never see and i would be in constant pain and needing continuous drops, ointments and pain pills…. so removing eye was kindest option for me, now i can live pain free and i’m told I will be just fine… These rescue people really have been great to me, BUT I so badly want a family of my own…I am fully house trained and love to cuddle and snort and snore.. I’m crate trained, i bark when i want to go out, they walk me on a special leash to keep me from bumping into things on my walks… and they say i’m very well behaved. So like i said, my name is Bumblebee, i’m about 1.5-2 years old, i am house trained and very smart and friendly, and i have no vision, but hey It's what's inside that counts, right?"
If you think you are the ‘right’ match for me please contact the rescue. thanks for wanting to adopt and save a life rather then shop for your newest best friend and family member.

Rico the foster dog- the journey continues...
Please click here to adopt or donate to help Rico from Second chance animal rescue of NYC
Hi all, This post began at the End of September 2012 after my return from a trip to NJ was interrupted...the nature of events were so difficult for me emotionally i could not finish this post until today Jan 7th, 2013...so here goes:
there have been many of you asking me how it's going with Rico and how is he?...so in answer to that is this post:
Last week (end of Sept 2012) I was away and as pre-approved by rescue Rico and my own two previously adopted rescued dogs were boarded at local pet sitters home- this is the same sitter who had them before (all of them, even Rico) and the same sitter who said she Loved Rico and had said she wanted to speak to her family about them adopting him....
Well, i was 6+ hours and over $80. in Gas & tolls away and i got a call from the petsitter...her exact words were: 'come get your dogs, Rico Killed my 4 year old daughter's cat, they can't stay here- you must come right now and get them; my husband wants to kill Rico and right now Rico is out in my sister's car to keep my husband away from him'.
All I could say was 'HOW could this happen?', " Where you Home?" Wasn't Rico in the Crate i supplied?, "DID you SEE Rico Kill your cat?" the answers were not straightforward, lots of sidestepping- seems that NO one was home for the entire day, Rico was not put in his crate as i directed and NO one Saw Rico Kill her daughters cat...And there were animals there besides mine owned by other 'customers' who could have very well been the culprits, BUT it seems to me RICO is being blamed because he is Part Pit bull...
Rico was amazing with my animals, 'our' cat and Rico slept together on same bed, drank out of same dish, there was NEVER any aggression from Rico towards our cat....The only thing Rico ever did was lay his front end on floor and put his butt up in air with tail wagging away thinking cat would 'play' with him...
In answer to my 'how could this happen question the pet-sitter claimed Rico and all the other dogs & pets in her house had been left without human supervision for a few hours and when the husband came home he found Rico with some cat fur in his mouth and the cat dead...all this proves is that rico might have sniffed the cat or pushed it with his muzzle to see why it wasn't moving-after something else killed it or it just died from some other cause = like maybe medical?
My head spun in all kinds of directions like: WHAT???? NO supervision? why wasn't Rico in the CRATE i brought over there for him? Where was everyone? What other animals where there? how do you know it was Rico?
He was amazing with all my animals, but then I never let him loose in house without me being right there to supervise and 'instruct' him on how to behave....after all this dog was scooped straight off the streets of NYC and into a KILL shelter with little or no manners...just a big puppy heart and lots of energy....He was Gentle or Ignored my Cats, and payed no mind to my little bird- just sniffed cage and when i said NO he walked away...
AND
He always was a softie towards anyone or any creature, he just wanted to "play" with Me and my Dogs, and would sniff my cats-if it 'looked' like he might want more then that...and I preventatively corrected him with "RICO NO, Leave the cat alone" in stern voice he would look at me and stop, usually he would come over to me wagging his tail and looking like he wanted 'forgiveness'....
This made me so sad, and it has taken me 2 months to finish this draft for my blog to tell about this horrible event or lack of...
I had to drive back to VT from NJ and get my pets from this woman's home, all of whom were tied outside withing reach of each other - like if RICO was some animal killer why would she tie him with overlapping reach with my 14# little rat terrier mix or my boxer? Just made no sense to me- the whole thing ,,,what kind of 'pet sitter' leaves shelter dog IN TRAINING out of its supplied crate for 8+ hours with animals it isn't familiar with- or for that matter, why were her cats left to roam area where my dogs, her dogs, and other customers dogs were kept????
I felt terrible for this young woman and her child for loosing their cat, but I am in no way convinced it was because of Rico, and I think it is totally HER fault for mismanagement of her duties as a pet sitter....NOT to mention her calling me to come home from a trip and tying my dogs outside to wait for 8+ hours while i drove home to VT to get my pets & my foster boy...
I had no idea what to do with Rico now that this happened and I had to go back to NJ, I couldn't afford to board all my dogs at a kennel & Rico too. so I boarded Rico and took my dogs with me to NJ...I asked the rescue to please find another foster for Rico, on the slight chance He did kill this cat I couldn't risk my own cat's life, the lives of my bunnies or my foster kitties lives -
Rico was taken to a Rescue affiliated Kennel in NH where he is waiting adoption to a NO CAT home. I pray he will find a good home who will love him and provide all he needs, I do know all i think of when i see him in my minds eye is the sweet big puppy-boy who followed me all over the house and yard, rolled over on his back in submission around my other animals when they sniffed him, and did nothing but make me fall in love with him.
I am told Rico is receiving obedience training and that he is doing well with no issues.
If you are interested in giving this once Death row Doggie a REAL HOME in a house with a loving 'Mom' &/or 'Dad' please contact me for an adoption application.
----------------------------February 5th 2013---------------------------
Update- I spoke with the woman who runs the kennel where Rico was temporarily residing after the 'cat' issue...seems he was 'adopted' 3 or so months ago (nobody told me) and that NOW he was Back at the kennel because his NEW people were getting divorced and they couldn't find apartment where they could keep dogs part pitbull...Discrimination...for sure... Now sweet Rico is Again awaiting a 'furever' home- please if you have your own home or landlord is doggie friendly please contact second chance animal rescue NYC = and ask about application to adopt Rico; the link to their rescue is on my blog menu...God please help sweet Rico get a really super-terrific home with awesome people who will never desert or abandon him...amen.
please click here to fill out application to adopt Rico, he is a wonderful dog- please don't let him stay in a Kennel, he is so good in the house and a real sweet boy...if you can't adopt him could you consider sending a donation of any amount to help second chance rescue? they save so many dogs off death row in NYC shelters...thank you

The amazing adventures or Ricco the Foster dog Day 2
Rico is smiling!
Scooter far R, Rico Left front, Sugar-ray's rear -rear!
So brief recap; Ricco was one of the lucky ones, He was pulled from the Urgent Death row list of Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) by 2nd Chance Rescue* the morning he was to be euthanized, -Just the night before Received a call from one of the 2nd chance angel's who alerted me to Ricco needing emergency rescue. I looked at the photos and text about Ricco and prayed, called back the "2nd chance angel" and said I would be willing to foster him 2-3 weeks so he would live and get a new 'leash' on life. Yesterday Ricco arrived here and we had a successful first day. (read yesterdays post fmi)
Rico L, Scooter Middle, Sugar-Ray R...
Sugar-Ray standing; Rico Rolling in laughter on ground!
Sugar-Ray L, Rico R...
Oh and let me tell you- Rico is a gentle doll...yea the leash stuff is a work in progress, but he is a gentle 'how can i please you' kinda dog...this morning was my first time of giving him his 2.5 pills for his kennel cough condition; I put some chunky peanut butter on a spoon, folded it over the pills and put it on my fingers (yea i know what you're thinking- but based on unmentioned things with him i knew it would be fine) Ricco licked off the peanut butter so gently i could only smile and be glad this gentle doll is now going to be able to get healthy, be loved, and enjoy life! Thank you God and thank you to all those who work so hard to save this dog and ones like him...
Ok so , Rico eats breakfast in his crate, goes out to do potty, his cage has not been soiled once, nor has he pawed around his food and water dishes so the cage is spotless...Good house manners...yea Rico!
Hey, did you hear that?
Look at that Handsome Profile!
All back in- a while later all back out, same as above. I took some photos earlier, i will post some here, Rico is the adorable black and white Lab looking boy with the happy face and waggy tail...(his listing with NY AC&C said he was a pit mix but I fail to see anything pit looking about his body type other then a long tail (that black labs all have) ...so who knows; but my doggie IQ says black lab mix

Also from my experience, I had no luck in getting anyone at NY AC&C to answer the phone, or even return email when I first felt led to 'save' a dog off their list...SO as it turns out I found out there are certain non-profit rescues who can save these dogs during the small window of time when the 530-6pm death row list of the night is posted and when the shelter starts killing early the next morning- so it's my experience Don't waste valuable time contacting NY AC&C; I found out about 2nd chance rescue through a friend and have nothing but praise and admiration for their dedication to saving these doggies...
so if you want to help; either by tax deductible donation or if you wish to foster or adopt a death row doggie, contact them -http://nycsecondchancerescue.org/ fill out their application and SPECIFY the name of dog, it's # and what shelter it is at...

August 29, 2012 Ricco the Foster Dog Arrived here today!
Ricco!!! He's Here! L@@K at this Handsome boy! (oh that's right, you can't see him like I can!) I am fostering Ricco for 2nd Chance Animal Rescue based in NYC...It was after lots of prayer and planning that I decided to apply to foster for them & I am so grateful they have blessed me by allowing me to help in their quest to save the dogs most in need; especially those on death row in NYC shelters....That is where Ricco came from- he was brought there as a stray...anyways that's all History!
Today is the first day of Riccos new happy and healthy life! Upon arriving here this is what i noticed; black and white lab-like face and floppy ears. slender for his size, no direct eye contact, slinkish body gestures, he had been car sick on way here (transporters van showed the evidence)...Ricco had some really bad dandruff and fleas, his first stop was the crate i set up for him where he drank some nice VT well water; 2nd stop was out to do potty; then 3rd stop was in the tub to get him treated for his dandruff and fleas.
Oh, did i mention right from his arrival here I began teaching him sit and stay with treats to re-enforce? this also carried over to the bath etc...
He was a good boy in the tub, very passive and non resistant to entire process. I wet him down, shampooed him up, let the shampoo sit a bit to work, and then a good rinse. He was a good boy about getting out of the tub (his fave part i'm sure) and let me dry him off with towels after a good shake or three!
Then Ricco spent some quiet time to dry further and rest in his crate. There was some crying at first, but that didn't last long as i just went about my business where he could see me (in kitchen) and didn't give him any (reward) attention for his crying; a couple of Ricco NO's and he caught on. He sat in crate and i noticed him checking out the room and noticing him watching my parrot taking a splashy bath in next room...I made sure i re-directed his attention with a NO, and Sit, and then a treat (diversion from parrot as pray)...Finally laying down and resting...ah, rest....After a rest/quiet time to settle in I put a dish of doggie food in his cage (along side the water already in there...
Ricco ate fast and furiously...and was ready to go out and explore our fenced in yard (on leash) and he smelled around a lot and did his business...after that I took him for a short walk down my dirt road...and of course every little bit he was told to sit, and then given heal command when it was time to walk again...Ricco pulls on the leash, I think he had little to no leash training, but after a few sit stay heal mini lessons along the way I noticed after we turned around to walk back to the house he was less frantically pulling and seemed a bit more relaxed.
Back inside the house and into his crate, now he is resting there peacefully...
So that's all for now, I'm off to do some 'people' stuff....
Thanks for reading my blog entry about Ricco; Please pray for him- he needs to put on some weight, learn some 'manners' and 'meet' and co-exist peacefully with the rest of my 4 legged family...

what a day!
Wouldn't you know it? Yesterday I had a flat tire on I-91. I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk. I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so lifelike you wouldn't believe! They are in trench coats, exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers. I started to change my tire, and to my surprise, cars started slowing down looking at my lifelike men. And of course, traffic started backing up. Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy. It wasn't long before a trooper pulled up behind me. He got out of his car and started walking towards me. I could tell he was not happy! "What's going on here?" "My car has a flat tire," I said calmly. "Well, what the hell are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?" I couldn't believe that he didn't recognize emergency flashers!"

Winter Rabbit tips

In winter there is more to deal with than just frozen drinking water.
It is important to give bunnies a draft free living area,
plenty of extra hay or straw bedding inside a nesting box for warmth on cold nights, give extra food too so they have energy to stay warm.
If you are planning on breeding your does in late fall or early winter make sure you have an inside cage for her to move into at least 7-10 days before kindling...if that isn't possible then you may want to put a heavy layer of hay or straw on cage floor, and put a brood lamp under the nestbox (at least 20+" away from hay lined floor...I use a 125 watt bulb in the fall for newborns, at least for first 3 weeks. I attatch the brood spot light to the inside of a plastic crate-then i put plexi glass over top of it to prevent shorting in case of mom's urine going through cage floor..
some breeders breed well into winter and take the nestbox in house right after being born. they take the nestbox out to the mom's cage and let her nurse them in the morning, then put the nestbox back in house, again they offer nestbox to mom in evening for another meal...
here in VT we can get -25'F for several days in a row and i prefer not to have bunnies under 4-5 weeks old during this time of winter. It seems to me i recall that young bunnies can not regulate their body temperatures till at least 3 weeks old.
check back for more on this topic...

bunnys & more bunnies mean cages & more cages!
Well we have had some busy german and giant angora here the past few months ... We bred some spectacular bunnies to produce some more show & breeding buns for our rabbitry to retain. When breeding with the intention of producing excellent show & breeding prospects to add to our own "keepers" we hang onto a lot the new bunnies till they are 4-8 months old in order to see how they are developing and so we dont sell the "pick of the litters" cause we let them go too young to get a chance to see what we were "really" selling. (this does happen sometimes...)
So as you can imagine, this means more cages need to be built, the barn re-arranged to handle these additonal cages, buying and storing more grain & more hay & more litter boxes..Yea most of our buns use litterboxes in their cages..we put wood pellet litter in bottom and full up the pans with fresh hay daily... they sit in there and eat hay & poop! they sleep in them too... It is important to keep them cleaned daily ...
We also have had to make more hay racks to hang in the new cages, buy more feed hoppers and more water bottles and crocks for winter water too...
I love working out in the barn building cages and caring for the bunnies. It is so peacefull and nurturing.
We give the bunnies lots of attention and they know when the treats are coming around & hang on their doors till they get theirs!
5 week old litter (above)
What kind of treats do we give? cheerios, bananas, carrots, orange slices, beet greens, green beans, any stuff like that out of our huge organic gardens...the also love the dried papaya and pinapple slices sold at the co-op (no sugar added thank you)...Ive got an order of drop pans on the way for the all wire cages im building now for us and for some customer orders...cant wait for them to come so we can seperate some of the weaned buns from their moms...
18 day old german kit-sooo cute!
Thanks for stopping by...

Rabbit Mansion-outdoor bunny hutch project
Hello all.
Having loved and raised rabbits for many decades now it was time once again to add/replace some of the cages here... Not being happy with the creation of the carpenters who i had purchased cages from in the past i decided to design one that had the knowlege of rabbit habbits built in!
the above is the top part of the frame for the cage i designed and made (its upside down)...
the basic schematics are shown here:
Cage lenth is 8 foot with a solid divider at 48". this seperates the cage into two seperate living areas. each 48 " area has at the outside end a 12" area that has a partial divider leading to the main area (36" area) via a large "mouse hole". the 12" w has wood walls and a wood door this area is for the mothers to have their babies (nest area). The 36" w area has a fan gal welded wire front (1x2) with a wire door complete with edge guards. water bottles and food hoppers hang on the wire area, as do the hay racks and cage cards. My cage is 30" deep and 24" H inside. the legs put the cage 24" up off the ground.
that is the frame (upside down) on saw horses... the floor is framed seperatley. after frame is complete i added 1/3" plywood roof, back, and end caps and the solid divider between the 2 seperate living areas, and also the partial dividers that seperate wire fronted main area from nesting areas.
1" x 1/2" 14 guage galfan wire is used ontop of flooring frame. plastic floor supports added with stay ties. stand is made much like a table, cage sits ontop of stand.
notice the roof is level instead of sloped. I did this so i can put wire cages stacked ontop of this cage for the kits once they are weaned & seperated from each other and their moms. Moms then go into their regular "dry" cages and the cages are then sanitized and occupied by the next bred does.
Here is my finished cage.
3 bucks on left, 3 does on right.
mom is in a cage by herself for now while i build more cages!
(so many bunnies born this spring and summer!)

btw, if you think i saved money by building this myself forget it! it took me weeks and hours and hours and tons of $ in hardware, wood and wire expenses... now i know why the cage making carpenters make such basic wrongly designed cages...doing it right takes lots of time and lots of money!
please dont ask if i can make one for you! i think this is the kind of project where ill need time to recover and forget how much work it was before i think ill build another...
ill stick with the 100% welded wire cage making for a while.
lol....
